Studio Theatre Club Presents Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward Wednesday 26th - Saturday 29th July - 7.30pm £12, concessions £10 For ticket information: www.studiotheatreclub.com The STC returns to the Unicorn Theatre for a fun and eerie production of Blithe Spirit; an exploration of love, jealousy and "the other side", by one of the masters of British comedy - Noel Coward. Considered by many to be one of Coward's most accomplished comedies, Blithe Spirit centres around Charles Condomine, an author, and his second wife Ruth who invite the local village medium, Madam Arcati, for a seance. Unfortunately, the seance summons the ghost of Charles' dead first wife Elvira into the land of the living. She decides that she wants Charles back, much to the irritation of Ruth. Misunderstandings and devious plots throw the house into chaos as the peace of a country home is shattered by raucous squabbling, with uproarious consequences. Blithe Spirit oozes classic Coward, with its acerbic wit, bickering couples and clever word play all ramped up to the maximum. An elegant and hysterical dissection of love and relationships, Blithe Spirit is a timeless farce with a simple central tenet: Love is tricky. |
